Pingbacks…

Hahaha tried to do pingbacks for the first time ever must say I failed miserably 😀

Oh well not doing too bad anyway considering I’m really a Neo-Luddite deep down 😉

Running it is all in the mind

Was reading on Ben’s Marathon Blog about an article in the New York Times suggesting that the mind influences your running.

I couldn’t agree more actually. When Miss Romarker asked me where to start and how to get motivated obviously I can give a lot of tips such as;
Start small with 5 km and increase speed and length gradually, join a running club, measure your improvements with a Garmin, MapMyRun etc.

But in the end running is a mental thing and only the mind can pull itself together to start training and to go out and run in the cold snow, wind and/or rain. Regardsless of what anyone tells you any run longer then 15 km IS hard work no matter how well trained you are and the worse the conditions are the harder it gets. The mind then has to resist the urge to stay inside on the warm sofa infront of the telly.

The article said that runners should not think about the running and the distance left but either think of other things or monotonously staring at the ground infront and counting each step.

I must say I agree, I run best when I either look at the ground, have a lot to think about or a lot of problems to solve (i.e. not thinking of the running) or when I am angry.
And when my body really wants to drop dead in the tracks my mind tells it “Hey Stupid, keep on running or you have or you have no business trying to run the marathon”. That always works.

Yes!

Yes I did it! Yesterday I did beat my personal best, it was the fastest I have run ever and it feels like I am back to where I was before the problems with my heels.
It was a real confidence boost 🙂

PB this time then?

Just trying to psych myself up for a short fast run, I really want to beat my PB today.
Going to borrow my partners Gargamel (Garmin) to pace myself.

Only problem is I am freezing, my fingers are like icicles…sötnos stop reading now…so I have turned on both radiators and put my sweeties bathrob on on top of my clothes. Don’t think I will be able to run unless I defrost, I see images of the Terminator 2 robot breaking into pieces whilst trying to walk when I close my eyes.

Phew…

Just been out running…

Today was meant to be a short and fast run, 5 km and I wanted to break my personal best. It started out well, the running was easy and fast….but did last??? Oh no of course it didn’t.
My Ipod started to behave badly about 2 km into the run, now your think so what has that got to do with running??? Well a lot actually since I time myself through my Ipod with the Nike sensor.
But when I had sorted that out I got the worst stitch in the right side ever. Normally if you keep running the stitch disappears after a while so I kept running but NOOO not this time it lasted all the way home 😡

So not a PB but it was still a decent time considering.

Imagine yourself in their situation

This year I went to Kenya for my holiday, the main aim was to recharge my batteries in the sun and have time alone together with my partner. We really needed sometime together away from everything as we had worked to much and had too little time for each other, we were really down and found everything a bit hard.

The sun, sea and diving really did the trick although we hardly relaxed at all.

But one of the things that I will remember the most from this holiday was Bombolulu. Bombolulu is a slum area in Mombasa, we decided to go there on our last day to see the real life in Kenya not just the perfect tourist world. Kenya is very poor and have all the diseases of poverty that Lepra is trying to prevent.

Every monsoon season a few houses collapse, there is no proper water sanitation which leads to outbreaks of Cholera and still standing water is a perfect breeding ground for Mosquitos carrying Malaria.
We in the west could so easily help the poor but yet we chose not to, we close our eyes and pretend that poverty and diseases doesn’t exist. We pretend that Kenya and other tourist destinations are as perfect as the brochures, well sorry to spoil it for you the world isn’t perfect.

Open your eyes because you miss things amongst all the poverty we found beautiful and happy people. We did not get bothered by anyone in the slums they were nothing but polite to us.
Just look at the school children smiling even though their school is muddy ground.

To help kids like these we need to donate money to research diseases, spread knowledge about how they spread and how to help the already infected people.
You just need to press the button ————–>
it is as easy as that 😉

PS All slums are not the same some are really dangerous like the ones in Brazil so take care on your holidays.
