Help my friend

One of my dearest friends is in a spot of bother at the moment. Like me she is Swedish and we met here in London. In 2004 she moved to Brazil with her son and soon to be husband, life in Brazil has in some ways been good but in other ways very hard for her.

They have now decided to move back to Sweden because, she want to spend time with elderly relatives while they are still alive, she wants her son to get a good education but above all she wants her son to be safe.
Since she is Swedish her son doesn’t look typically Brazilian, this makes him a possible target of “Flash Kidnapping”. The kidnappers don’t set a high ransom but are often content for you to just empty everything in your bank account by forcing you to the ATM, although they might do this for days in a row. Needless to say she is often worried and seldom relaxed about her life in Brazil.

Now in an ideal world she and/or I would be rich and then a straight forward move would not be a problem. I’m stuck in the UK with a shitty salary and she is in Brazil working on their equivalent to minimum wage. So the problem is the flights they will cost around £2700 (30,000 SEK), for their family to save up this amount of money will take at least 15 months. But that would cause another problem, as her husband just been awarded a residence permit for Sweden they should move there with in a year of the granting of the permit or it may be revoked.

I will sponsor my friend to help her buy tickets home and if you want you can do it too by clicking here. (or donate at PayPal:brasilianskasmakerATgmailDOTcom as the link doesn’t seem to work some of the time, replace AT with @ and DOT with . )
Or maybe you can fix cheap tickets, give away airmiles or whatever, please contact me in the comments.

If you understand Swedish then you can read more about her here.

India Fundraising update!

Thank you to everyone who donated and/or wrote about me and my fundraising on their blogs and in their facebook status. Together we have reached my fundraising target and the India trip will now go ahead.

Before I leave I will have a leaving do in the pub, I will let you know the place and date nearer the time of departure. If you are not on my email list or amongst my fb friends but still want to come to my leaving do let me know in the comments and I’ll invite you…with one exception.

Also to any would be thief;
1. I have absolutely nothing worth of stealing in my flat, I am sooo not materialistic and I certainly have no money…if you do decide to break in let me know if you find something 😉
2. Actually don’t bother breaking in because my flat (read shoebox) won’t be empty, a friend will live in it the whole time.

To a certain other person;
1. My internet duties in moderating a certain forum will go on as I am only 1 out of 7 people moderating it…although I get blamed for 100% of the removals.

And finishing with one of the funniest search engine words to end up on my blog “how long does it take for a frog to run”. Now I can’t stop thinking “to run what” a marathon, 10K? Need to know please feel free to leave the answer in the comments 😀

Since my target has been reached I have have changed my sponsor button back to Lepra, you can still donate to them for my London Marathon effort.

Next Challenge!

As you probably know by now I like to raise funds for charities through challenges, here is my thoughest challenge up to date, 8 weeks of hard labour in India, 24/7…Now we need to raise funds for the project, I need your help to raise £1350 by Sunday the 9th of May.
This time I am giving not only money but also my time.

The project have two aims; developing youths is one and the other is to work on a community project to aid the local community. I have trained and prepared for this project since September 2009 and it will probably be one of the hardest things I will ever do.

Just to make it clear none of this money will go to me, I will NOT have a paid holiday. My flights, visa, vaccinations and gear is paid for by me seperately. All the money raised here will go to the charity to make projects like this possible. Also I will certainly not have a holiday as I will be working there the whole time developing youths but also working to finish a community project.

The place I am going to is in the south of India in the Karnataka/ Mysore area, I will be there for 8 weeks starting in July. If possible I will update my blog in India as well but I know there might be limited opportunities to blog or even get access to the internet.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. To donate just click here.

Another Marathon!?!

Yesterday I applied to do another marathon 🙂 Thought I would have learnt something but nooo 😀 So I applied to run London next year again. Actually I have the post marathon blues at the moment, it’s scientifically proven that many marathon runners get a bit depressed just after a marathon and need a new goal. So spoke to some runners on Monday advising me to book another marathon to look forward too and all week I have been thinking of when and which one apart from the already applied to London marathon.

So which one this year??? It’s too late to apply for a marathon that is before I go to India in July/August so it will have to be a marathon that’s in September or October. Dublin Marathon on the 25th October would be nice, Amsterdam on the 17th of October is another hot contender, or maybe Mallorca on 17th October, Loch Ness marathon 3rd October might be nice too or Athens marathon 31st October. Casablanca is on the 24th of October too, should be fairly warm there, tempting very tempting.

Obviously New York marathon is in November but as I want to do all 5 world majors marathon this one can wait until I start on the majors serie.

Do you know anything about the mentioned marathons? Any favourites with flat and fast PB courses or maybe you know which one to avoid, or maybe a suggestion for a different marathon? All advise and tips are good ones.

My dream marathon time now is 3.30 and if I could do 4.27 with an injury and rubbish training then 3.30 with proper training should be possible 😀 Me aiming too high…never 😉 But this is not for the autumn marathon but for 2011 instead.
